Il Vezzo
the sommelier-curated Tuscan wine list (~100 labels, including natural wines)
Cozy trattoria energy just off the main flow. Balanced menu, fair prices, and a pace that invites conversation.
In San Lorenzo, Tuscany. Easy to fold into a morning or a longer afternoon; there's usually something else worth a stop within a few minutes' walk.
Il Vezzo is in Florence (Centro Storico, Via Guelfa 58R) rather than greater Tuscany broadly; opened in 2013 by chef Marco and sommelier Giovanni as a deliberate alternative to the touristy center. It's small, cozy and family-feeling, with warm professional service and strong, fairly priced food — well-reviewed (Tripadvisor ~4.7 across 1,200+ reviews, ranked ~#112 of 2,493; Restaurant Guru ~4.8). Cuisine is contemporary Tuscan: standouts include the Fiorentina steak, house-made buckwheat pappardelle with bolognese, a sea bass/prawn/nori terrine, gnocchi and veal fritters. A signature feature is sommelier Giovanni's wine program of nearly 100 Tuscan labels spanning classic to natural wines. Service is dinner-only and reservations are strongly recommended given the small size.
