Plathiena
calm, shallow protected water (and a famously good sunset)
Sheltered beach with clear, calm water and smooth rock shelves. Come early for a quiet swim before the day warms up.
In Plaka, Milos. Easy to fold into a morning or a longer afternoon; there's usually something else worth a stop within a few minutes' walk.
Plathiena is a semi-sheltered sandy cove on the northern part of Milos, very close to Plaka, with easy road access and parking. It is known for unusually shallow, calm water that warms up like a bathtub and stays protected even on windy days, plus scattered pebbles and tamarisk trees for natural shade. It's lightly organized with rentable sunbeds/umbrellas and a beachside tavern serving coffee, drinks and food. The beach is also celebrated for one of the best sunsets on the island, and the famous Milos 'bear-rabbit' rock sits offshore (visible only from a boat). This corroborates the curator's note about clear, calm, sheltered water and quiet early-morning swims.
