Cova was founded in 1817 (originally near Teatro alla Scala) and has occupied Via Montenapoleone since the 1950s; it is one of Milan's oldest caffè-pasticcerie, now owned by LVMH/Moët Hennessy. It's historically a haunt of the Milanese upper class, artists and intellectuals (and a Hemingway favorite, referenced in A Farewell to Arms), and is credited with helping popularize the industrial panettone. The Infatuation describes impeccably dressed regulars and an old-world-meets-luxury vibe, recommending the budino di riso, the egg-and-watercress tramezzino, and a macchiato at the bar. Signature items include the carefully crafted panettone, plus classics like maritozzo, hot chocolate, and cappuccino with brioche. Reviews are mixed mainly on price — widely seen as expensive given the prestigious location.
