Fritz Hansen Copenhagen
iconic Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm pieces displayed amid ornate cast-iron columns and Dinesen oak floors
Fritz Hansen's Copenhagen flagship occupies a beautifully renovated Royal Post Office building. The space merges historical architecture with modern Nordic design. Iconic pieces by Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm are displayed across two floors featuring Dinesen oak and ornate cast-iron columns. Expert staff transform furniture browsing into an immersive journey through 150 years of Danish design heritage. It's as much a cultural destination as a showroom.
Fritz Hansen's Copenhagen flagship is a 270 m² showroom over two floors at Valkendorfsgade 4 (1151 Copenhagen), in a former mansion and Royal Post Office at the corner of Købmagergade and Valkendorfsgade. The careful restoration (by Sweco) preserved ornate cast-iron columns and the historic facade while introducing mixed-width Dinesen HeartOak floors for a calm, uniform Nordic feel. Founded in 1872, the company displays iconic pieces by Arne Jacobsen and Poul Kjærholm alongside contemporary work by Jaime Hayon, Cecilie Manz, and Kasper Salto, with knowledgeable staff offering design and craftsmanship guidance. Hours are Mon–Fri 10–18, Sat 11–17, closed Sunday (and temporarily closed June 1–9, 2026 for 3 Days of Design prep). This confirms the curator's notes; note the building is on Valkendorfsgade/Købmagergade, not Bredgade (where Carl Hansen & Søn sits).
